Design and Research

Since the beginning of the course I knew what game I was going to make the companion app for, so I just needed to come up with a design to use and think about what content I would include. I decided to start by thinking of the colour scheme.

Colour Scheme

For the colour scheme I wanted to match it to the mascot of the game (the goblin) so I went with green and black as the main colours with the text being white. I didn’t want to only use greens and blacks though is I also went with some shades of blue to be used on text blocks, with the greens being the main background.

Target Audience

After getting the colour scheme out of the way I thought about the target audience of my game as this website is tailored towards the users of the game. My game is a 2d dungeon crawler similar to Realm of the Mad God (2011) so I used that game as a base to find out my target audience. The player base is mostly male players in the age range of 16-30 so I will tailor my game to people in this gender and age range.

The Apps Goal

Next I decided to think about the goal of my companion app. I wanted the user to be able to see their in game stats and inventory from the app, as well as all the latest news and patch notes for the game. This would allow the player to keep updated with the game, but also interact with it on the go as they could compare stats with their friends or brag about their inventory.
